If you've got a DS you can get the R4 chip, and there's people out there making a book thing for that, just import text files of the book and use the DS as an e-book

i "bought" something like 16,000 books off a guy from Iraq lol, came on 2 CDs, most were crap but I say 400 are very good (classics/moderns etc)

Reads any file format pretty much, also does music and photos. Screen is amazing, none of them are back lit though

Does something like 7500 pages off one charge, only uses battery to change the display (does not need power to keep the display on the screen)

very easy to use, Waterstones have a large online store but the books arnt cheap, maybe £5 cheaper then hardbacks, but real book lovers would rather pay the £5 and have a physical copy I would say

But ISOHUNT has a lot of books to download, and theres dozens of free websites where authors upload their books trying to get publishing deals etc, and like you say you can read PDF files etc too

mine has an SD card and a memory stick duo, 4GB of space

Yeah was just reading about them finding a carrier for their Whispernet (or whatever it is called).

John

It's because of the built in 3G modem more than anything I think. They'll be trying to work out a deal with a carrier over here.

Books have different publishers depending on country as well afaik so that might be equally as big a stumbling block.

Might be worth getting the costco sony one then you can always take it back if it's not great.

That one is costco is what gave me the idea. Was in there with him getting some stuff for the shops and he was looking at it and saying it looks good (he doesnt really have much idea about things like that!).

Does the 3G bit work in the UK?

It gets rave reviews but I think there will be a lot more coming out soon, amazon will be offering kindle as a service and not just for their own reader.

I'd love one, costco have a sony one in and it looks really good.

Anyone had a go on one of these?

Thinking of getting my Dad the Kindle DX for his birthday as he reads a shed load of books, plus he can put the pdf reports and things he gets from the various businesses on it to read on the train.
