Heard that if you go through the post office for ADSL you can get the line activation fee waivered. might be worth looking at

It depends if the line was ceased or just cancelled, sometimes it costs, sometimes it doesn't.

If the house already has a line/had one then no it doesnt cost.

We had this problem when we got our place. The house had previously had a BT Line although was removed when the previous owners had cable.

We had a new line put up (none went to the house) and it was free..

Two houses in a row I've lived in have had the socket, line etc installed and have still had to pay the £125.
You can spread the cost of the £125 over a few months though, you don't have to pay it in one chunk.

edit: But the house before it didn't cost a penny.

Also according to a few forums on the internet (digispy and mse etc) people are saying the £125 fee is a nominal amount thats stated everywhere and given over the phone, apparently if the engineer turns up and finds all that needs doing is the box in your room activating (no rewiring etc or anything like that) they just tell you its free of charge and that it will be done in the next few days? Experiences, that sounds very similar to what it was like in this property now, I got it done free even though some twunt had chopped the phone socket to pieces :|

No cable, adsl only :( No one has use for a landline anymore now we all have mobiles, except for broadband :(

Try Virgin Media as I'm sure they dont charge for a new installation.

Dont quote me on that though.

Ive given them a ring, apparently as its a new property and no previous connection we have to pay it :( The woman said the cabling is probably already there, it just needs to be connected to their network. Is mobile broadband any good? I assume I cant play xbox live on it? :mad:

No I beleive the £125 charge is if they have to install a new line.

As far as I know my new property physically has a BT line installed, it just needs activating (I am going to confirm this as it will answer my later question), is it this activation of the line that BT charge a rediculous £75 for? I believe I got that fee waived when I brought the service over to my current property, so im just wondering if anyone has tips to getting it done for free again, as Im not planning on keeping their broadband package, but will be needing their shite, overpriced phoneline if I want to stay on the internet, unless anyone can recommend a mobile or 'real wireless' service
