I've had that before and never found a cause.

Used to happen when burning cd's as well.

Bizarrely, I managed to transfer all my music over (about 5000 tunes) but one single music file wouldnt transfer and kept crashing my PC again. The file plays fine on my laptop though so cant be corrupt surely? It was the same with one picture file, I can open / edit the photo but when I transfer it, it crashes the PC, I deleted it and transfered th esame folder and all went smoothly.

Yeah my external doesnt like me transfering anything aover approx 4.3GB, so have to do any folders larger than this is a few chunks.

Do it in smaller parts,Create a "Photo's" folderm then transfer the rest in 1Gb portions to that folder.

Bought a new 1TB USB2 HDD.

While I can transfer many GB's of stuff straight from my camera onto the HDD, I can't transfer off my Laptop without it crashing my laptop.

Specifically photos. when I shift my 10gb photo's folder over to the HDD it shifts half of it then thats it, locks, freezes and laptop needs rebooting.

Any ideas? Like I say, straight off my camera is fine, but not from laptop HDD to Ext. HDD.
