Mainly talking about torrents mate. My connection is shit and disconnects every half hour or so... I've registered on orangeproblems.co.uk though as phoning Orange got me no where! But on the plus side at least I know I'm on 8Mb now :P

Try downloading netbeans from the sun website, I was getting 700k from them on my o2 connection so must be a fast server.

At the same time I was trying to get stuff from microsoft to test speeds though and they were slow.

Hit and miss.

Downloading from P2P (i guess you mean something like Limewire?) means the person you're downloading from must have a good internet connection (upload speed to be exact)....more often then not....they dont.

Bloody hell that was quick, maxed out @ 810Kb/s, averaged @ 797Kb/s.

Well there's a bit of good news I guess, guess just P2P sucks!

No, you pay for the music.....but not the actual software. you dont even need to install the application that you download...its just a good test to see what speed you get when you download the setup file of it to your computer.

Do it, i'm interested to see what you get considering what you wrote in your first post.

go to apple.com and download the iTunes setup file. Apart from using www.speedtest.net...i see this as the only other reliable way of checking your "true" download speed.

Apple.com usually offers great download speeds which will totally saturate your entire bandwidth...thus giving you a true reflection of what speed you can expect to get.

I thought I only had a 2Mb connection...

Just done a speed test and turns out I'm running @ 6.8Mb, which I'm happy with, guess they finally upgraded my area to "up to 8Mb". However, I can still only download at around 2.2Mb, even from servers...

Any idea why?
