port authorisation code (pac) is used for porting number from one provider to another, they have to give it you within 5 days of request.

going off what ajmair said i need to get another pay as you go sim card from say O2 so i can trfr my current orange number over to them so that i can then trfr it back to orange.

what i wanted to know is would the O2 sim then have a different number so it is still usable? or would it be cut off?

Just requested mine from Vodafone. The only issue I had with getting it is I had to sit through a few minutes of why the Storm is such a good handset

i recently just did this. bought out my orange contract and upgraded to a new orange contract

to transfer numbers you need to phone up and get a PAK code

orange wont let you transfer from orange to orange.

I had to transfer my number to a virgin pay as you go sim then get pak code off virgin and get it transfered to my new orange contract

took around 3 or 4 weeks of pissing around with 2 phones but need to do it foe work really

PAC code is what you want but you need to be at the end oif your contratc (within 70 days ish).

As John says, illegal to withhold

Once you give your new provider the PAC code it will be doen with 24 hours IIRC

It's illegal for them to withold it I think, sure Robbo or somebody will know for sure, phone back and tell them you want it before you get off the phone.

What company? Bit strange

My friend did it when the iPhone came out, so he HAD to go with o2, but wanted to keep the number.

Whittie

You can do it, takes less than 2 weeks to do aparently.

Friend did it from Vodafone to o2, you need to phone your current provider and ask for a PAK code? (I think) And they send you all the details in the post.

i was told the other day that if i rang up a phone company and asked for a certain number (forgotten the name) but it meant that if i gave the new phone company this number that it would transfer my phone number across to it.

is this true or not? orange wont let me do what i inteded to do so i may actually have to start a new contract with either orange or vodafone

but i really want to keep the same number.
