Personally I would spend the most on speakers then amp then cd player. My 2p worth

Great Shop, Most/All my gear is from there!

Yeah same, although it does seem like we are coming towards the point where one sound system will be suitable for all.

Veryy true, it just depends what you want to use them for. I have never watched a movie on mine, and just use them for music in my bedroom, and for that they are perfect!

You don't really get surround though, it's nowhere near comparable to having the extra speakers behind you.

Take a look at the bose companion 5's, ive got them and love them! Surround sound, from just 2 tiny satellite speakers and a sub

Want this sort of thing?

"comet, currys, argos and littlewoods" You arn't going to find anything decent there. You need to work out what you want, ie what you actually want it to do and what is important, then get a budget in mind and see what the best is out of that.

What do you mean by big system? Loud? Doesn't necessarily have to be big to have some oomph.

Its not a dock I use, its a couple of speakers and a sub designed originally for use with a computer. Made by logitech iirc.

Have you got an ipod?

The Bose ipod docks are awesome as an alternative

yea ill have a look at a few surround sound systems then same as what you have got.

Some people like music from a couple of good stereo speakers powered by a decent amp, most mp3 docks don't cut the mustard.

I use my 5.1 for my music but that's more through lack of space, still not close to a decent set of stereo floorstanders.

If you aren't an audiophile though an ipod dock or a set of computer speakers and amp will probably suffice though.

actualy when you put it like that im looking at getting a new laptop so maybe i should just look for a nice suround sound or somthing i could plug it into?

I was thinking the other day, they seem kinda pointless, seeing as how mp3s have really began to take over. In my flat I have a sub with a couple of speakers, all I do is plug in the mac and wack itunes on. Does the job, will play cds too if I wanted!
