Yeah same, although it does seem like we are coming towards the point where one sound system will be suitable for all.

Veryy true, it just depends what you want to use them for. I have never watched a movie on mine, and just use them for music in my bedroom, and for that they are perfect!

Ive been into Hi Fi for years, always go for a seperates system as they sound much better... so speakers/amp/cd player/ipod dock. The best shop for budget hi fi is richer sounds - they're friendly and not pushy and will let you take equipment to try it out at home too... check this link out for some of their systems. Personally I would spend the most on speakers then amp then cd player. My 2p worth

You don't really get surround though, it's nowhere near comparable to having the extra speakers behind you.

"comet, currys, argos and littlewoods" You arn't going to find anything decent there. You need to work out what you want, ie what you actually want it to do and what is important, then get a budget in mind and see what the best is out of that.

Its not a dock I use, its a couple of speakers and a sub designed originally for use with a computer. Made by logitech iirc.

Some people like music from a couple of good stereo speakers powered by a decent amp, most mp3 docks don't cut the mustard.

I was thinking the other day, they seem kinda pointless, seeing as how mp3s have really began to take over. In my flat I have a sub with a couple of speakers, all I do is plug in the mac and wack itunes on. Does the job, will play cds too if I wanted!
