Try a factory reset of the 2wire router, might be some blocks or summet on there from new.

Then smash the Tiscali details in :)

Yes, as I have been doing. I would, but the 2wire one is having a strange problem where it won't let my 2nd laptop access certain things, like MSN, ebay and youtube?? God knows why. The g/f's laptop works fine with it, but mine doesn't. Not sure whether it's because mine is slightly old and has a b grade wifi adaptor? It's not the access restrictions either. I tried restoring default settings and changing my laptops computer name but still with no joy :(

Options currently are...

1) Live with the 2.5mb tiscali router and have both laptops working a treat

2) 2wire router with 5mb, but one laptop not accessing certain things and pissing me off. Would probs have to be new laptop time

You can use the 2wire one anyway if you put the tiscalli details in.

Yeah, well, I've had that other 2wire router plugged in all week and occassionally I'll come home and the BB connection will have gone off. I'll reboot the router and the connection speed will have gone up a bit, slowly working its way up to 5mb. Changed router and now it's half that  Choker

There can be differences between routers but it's doubtfull theres that much.

It'll probably fluctuate for the 1st 10 days to get a stable speed.

Could also be because tiscalli are shocking and they've set it so you only get that speed.

Will one router give faster speeds than another?

Reason I ask is...I used to be with BT back in the day so still had a 2wire router they gave me. I got my tiscali broadband this week at the new house and I was gettin 5mb as indicated by the 2wire router and confirmed by speedtest.net (I know 5mb isn't great, but its the best I can get in the middle of no where).

Today I received my Tiscali router and just set it up. It's only sayin i've got 2.5mb and speedtest.net is saying the same :boggle:

Should I just go back to the old router? Why would this one be half the speed? Or will it pickup and go quicker at some point? :o
