Originally posted by PaulW People rave about the PS3 having far superior CPU (Cell) Xbox has a 3-core PPC CPU. PS3 has a Single core PPC CPU (but had 7 seperate SPU Cores (6 of which are available to be used.) Each SPU core has only 256k of memory however, so programs have to be small enough to fit when required. This also does not help development of the games (specifically in regards to debugging) as you quickly run out of room for any information when needed, especially depending on how the programs are compiled. PS3 will outperform the 360 in some mathematical routines, but there pretty much on-par with each other. Xbox is ATI Graphics, PS3 is Nvidia (very similar capabilities) PS3 has 256Mb RAM with 256Mb Video RAM, but it can use video ram as system ram if required. Xbox only has 512Mb system ram but only 10Mb on the graphics side. It does utilise the system ram for graphics. Only real benefit for the PS3 is the fact it has BluRay, and that given the new crop of games, they are becoming extremely more difficult to fit onto a single DVD. BluRay will also allow for more textures to be loaded/streamed into the levels etc, compared to DVD. So in about 12 months, the PS3 will start to edge forward in regards to complexity and design of levels & other aspects of the games I reckon. But the 360 still wins hands-down in regards to the catalogue of games IMO.:) [Edited on 15-11-2008 by PaulW]
