Un-plug the cable from your DVD player and check you can see a red light coming through the end of the cable. If you're confident all the PS3 settings are correct then as said above, it'll be a setting on your DVD player -- change it to "AUX" or "OPT" (or something like that).

Set the input for the phillips suround sound to optical if there is an option to do that.

You do, you just set the sound to go through optical.

You can have it that way, just not sound through both at the same time.

I've deselected the option for sound to come through the hdmi, and have selected it to come through my surround sound. From what ive read over the net you are able to have visual through hdmi, and audio through optical....

You need to set it to send the sound out via optical, you can't have it through optical and hdmi at the same time.

Way around this is to use the optical out from your tv.

Im having trouble setting up my surround sound to go with my tv. Hopefully someone can help, bare with me though as i'm rubbish at explaining things...:o

So my ps3 is connected to my sony tv with a hdmi cable, this obviously works fine. My dvd player/surround sound is a Philips LX3750 W. I've plugged in my new optical digital cable into my ps3 and into the dvd player/reciever, ive then gone into my ps3 sound settings and ticked for dolby surround sound 5.1 support....

But no sound :(

can anyone help? I'll do my best to answer any questions. Cheers in advance
