If unlocked via network code it does not invalidate the warranty

Says so in the terms and conditions.

Is obviously something the phone companies/networks have decided on. :)

Voda are now selling phones that are unlocked.if they are still locked to voda ie an older phone, you can contact them via the web and get an unlock code for free.I did this when i sold my n95.

yes but if u purchase a phone on 02 and its unlocked to all networks then the manufacturer (i.e nokia, lg, samsung) will be able to tell. they know via serial numbers which phone was distributed to which network

What if its unlocked via a code like it would be from the network?

unlocking the phone does invalidate the warranty, i work for LG and the amount of poorly unlucked corrupt faulty phones we get thru unlocking is shocking.

Invalidates the warranty.

Most of vodafone phones come locked to the network.

I got my E51 from ebay, was a vodafone upgrade contract, came unlocked, vodafone and O2 phones are normally unlocked.

Hmmm I really want a Nokia E51 but I can't find it on O2 anywhere - although eBay seems to have a lot of people with them for upgrades.

lots of people on our market do it, im pretty sure it would invalidate the warrent allthough im not sure if they leave any visible damage or broken seals on the fone

they do it while you wait at our market think its only £10 too

So what is involved with unlocking mobile phones? Does it void the warranty when you do it? Say buying a phone on Vodafone PAYG but wanting to put O2 Pay Monthly SIM in?

Can it be done in your home or do you have to take it to some dodgey market trader?
