Go for the E8400 (duel core) duel core should be fine for anything you want to do, quad is a bit of an overkill unless your doing really intense music/image work, or sending a spaceship to the moon. | |

Yeh I always went for AMD for value for money but I don't think that's the case anymore. | |

There is no reason to buy any current AMD over an intel, that's why they aren't making any money. | |

I would say £300 is perfectly fine, however I cant comment on the components really as I am a bit like you, slightly out of touch with whats new. From quick reading Intel's are very good these days, both on performance and price | |
