You also can't change the sound for a text (as far as I'm aware) without doing that Jailbreaking thing which I'm pretty sure voids warantee

Can you not just set an mp3 as your ringtone on the iphone like any other phone?

Download iRinger, simple program lets you import a song, choose which 30 second section to use (you can also fade in and out) then exports it as a ringtone file you can import into iTunes.
