It's a piece of piss - just go out and buy a decent router, not an ADSL modem/router, but plain vanilla router with a Ethernet WAN port (eg > THIS <). Then you just connect the Ethernet out from Virgin cable modem (probably a silver unit called an NTL250) to the wan port of the router. And then set it up as the manual says.

Keep the Virgin Modem. Buy a Wireless Router from any brand, plug into the Modem and et-voila, wireless internet.

quote: The way it works iirc, is the modem is assiged to virgin as this is allowed internet connection, thats why virgin sell you one as they can all preconfigure it. Just buy a wireless router plug it into the modem and you have wireless.

There must be another way though Dan, like what CorsaB is saying? Would rather not buy Virgin's own wireless solution, I find the stuff you buy from these companies only limits you in what you can do with them (take the Sky one my dad's got, he cant change half the settings he wants to  )

Now im no computer n00b but I am a cable broadband n00b, never had it or seen it before in my life, always had ADSL. Can I just use a wireless adsl modem/router to make the connection wireless or will it need a wireless cable modem/router, im not sure if the phoneline connections etc are different. |
