Like I said, it's a bit extreme.:lol: Probably just a last resort as the Hub's port forwarding isn't great.
It's nothing BT are doing to stop you, it's just that the HomeHub is crap. I swapped ours for my Netgear router I got from Sky and it works much, much better.
I hate the home hub. Have a netgear but the family rage at me when I use it :mad:. Fixed now anyway, Im getting better downloads speeds than 5kb/s :thumbs:

What are you trying to open a port for?
Do the router and program not have upnp?

The BT Broadband Talk service will stop working.
Your Hub will no longer receive automatic remote upgrades.
The device assigned to the internet service will no longer be protected by the Hub's firewall.
Any Dynamic DNS service you might have setup will stop working.
The BT FON Wi-Fi Community service on your Hub will stop working.
that sounds like a load of bullshit to cover their asses, if you unlock ports, and something happens - they will not be held responsbile.
Nah, setting up the DMZ means that all traffic goes straight to the device you choose and isn't processed by the Hub, so it can't filter the bits it needs for Fon/Talk etc. out itself.
DMZ is an extreme way of doing it IMO.

Windows firewall is off and I've been through the homehub admin panel and added the ports I want open.. Also set my connection to a DMZ. Which apparently...
quote: This page allows you to assign the public IP address of your Internet connection to a specific device on your local network.
You can use this feature for troubleshooting a device or application, but in most cases you should instead use the configuration on the Game & Application Sharing page.
When using this feature, you should understand the serious impact on your Hub and network's performance and therefore only use it as a temporary measure:
The BT Broadband Talk service will stop working.
Your Hub will no longer receive automatic remote upgrades.
The device assigned to the internet service will no longer be protected by the Hub's firewall.
Any Dynamic DNS service you might have setup will stop working.

what's it like? you may need to open the port relative to your ip address?
Go to Start -> Run ->
type 'cmd'
that should open a dos prompt
then do ipconfig
this will give you a load of numbers
Look for the IP address, it'll probably be 192.168.1.xxx
That xxx = the ip address you've been assigned by your router within your connection (probably on it's NAT table).
this is my router page for example, my xxx (IP internally) is 192.168.1.102
So I've put the port in, then done it to unblock for my ip address.

login to your router
go to a browser
http://192.168.1.1
That should open up the router interface
now there should be a username and password box appear, but it'll be something standard like
uname = admin
pword = admin
or
uname = leave blank
pword = admin
Once in there, look for something (I don't know BT home hub routers - I'm sure if you google it you'll find help) that relates to ports being blocked, maybe in security, accesibilty or applications/gaming.
