Aye, you have SATA and IDE.

Good luck! It's shit when you loose all your uni work that you have spent a lot of time on :(

Cheers chaps! Some good idea's there...

Laptops less than a year old! I left it hibernating and woke up the next day and it's off completely...

gonna wait till my sis gets home and try the hard drive in her laptop as my mate's laptops hard drive connection differed to mine!

Sounds like a dead motherboard mate :(

If ya need a hand with it, I've fixed a few. Also got some data recovery solutions here :)

if you're desperate for your data, which i assume you are, get hold of one of these, so should sell them at PC world etc, you basically take your hard drive out, put it in this then plug it into another computer using USB. it'll at least read the data while your laptop is getting fixed or something

Sounds like the motherboard has died.

Can get all the data off by taking the hard drive out and attaching it to another laptop that supports two hard drives or get a converter and plug it into a desktop.

Same sort of thing happend to me when i was in my 2nd year of uni and needing to pass to go on placement. Nightmere!

If its not turning on at all theres a very very very small possibility it could be memory or one of the drives etc.

Remove as much as you can, try swapping memory about if it has 2 sticks.

If this fails it'll be motherboard.

If the battery is completely dead it may take a good while before it will start charging the battery.

Try plugging it into the mains with the battery removed and see if it turns on.

Right, went to switch my laptop on today and the power button does nothing. Also when I plug it into the mains the 'orange' mains light doesn't come on... Tried the power pack in someone elses computer and visa versa and its fine...

So it's my laptop that's the issue

I can't believe this... I've got exam in about 3 days and on my laptop i've got all my notes and coursework... any one got any ideas what to do with it? and how can i get my stuff off the laptop??
