Is it windows xp?

1)
go to start \ run \ then type msconfig

On that screen goto the startup tab

Untick and programs that you dont want to run at startup.

Dont restart the laptop yet.

2) Try cleaning the prefetch folder c:\windows\system32\prefetch highlight all and delete!

Then run a defrag.

3) Download and install a spyware program, id recommend the free version of AVG anti-spyware. Update the software and run a scan.

Restart your laptop.

Disk defrag? Clear caches, you never know might help.

Run a program called "spybot search and destroy", usually speeds up mine.

You'll have to download it of download.com or something.

Over about the last month one of my laptops has really slowed down. It's never been that quick but it's getting so slow now, it's taking over 20 minutes just to boot up. :|

A box kept popping up saying virtual memory minimum too low, I think I've sorted that now, but it's still no quicker.

I've installed AVG Anti-virus, and anti-spyware just seeing if there was anything Norton hadn't picked up, but they're both clear. I've tried a defrag ran a disk cleanup, removed a load of old programs that I don't use anymore but still no luck :(

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It's running XP if that helps
