You would need surround headphoens with a built in decoder.

I have surround headphones but they need the signal decoded and my amp doesn't have the outputs i need to use them

Yeah I have it set up with the dvi audio jack and also the audio out port.

So I am pretty fooked for sound then :( I use 2 pc speakers in the audio out but they need to so loud to hear footsteps in cod4 :( If I got surround sound head phone would this work or would it be pointless ?

You won't be getting surround from your tv anyway :boggle:

Hdmi carries audio but hdmi-dvi doesn't.
The dvi port should have an audi in that you plug the red and white into.

After reading this topic I am more confused then when I started :S
My tv only has 2 phono jacks, one red and one white and my hdmi is hdmi to dvi :o I would like surround sound for FPS.
How does optical plug into a Tv normally because I dont have an Optical port and was wondering if Im fooked for sound.

The answer to the original question was yes btw, even if its not proper surround.

You'll get Dolby Pro Logic II at least?

Gawd how many more times does it have to be said :P

Using red and white RCA's WILL NOT give you surround sound.

The optical and hdmi issue will be fixed in a future firmware upgrade surely. It only happens because of the auto setup for HDMI.

so ill have to use hdmi to tv and the red and white to the surround sound. Cool

Ps3 won't output optical and hdmi at the same time either, has to be one or the other, makes me always use my surround though which is good.
