make sure you have EVERYTHING for playback visible, at full volume, and not muted, except for the microphone

I've got two identical laptops which are fairly new (Toshiba Satellite Pro A120's)

I've formatted them both with an XP disk and re-installed the drivers which downloaded earlier from the Toshiba site. The Sound works on one of them but not on the other.

On the one where the sound wont work, the sound card is recognised in Device Manager, i am able to alter the volume on the slider etc.....but no sound :boggle:

I've tried some head phones in the jack to make sure it isnt the speakers that are fooked.

Any ideas?
