Only laptop hard drives can be powered off USB... all the others require a molex from an internal PSU or an adapter. | |

Seems a lot of messing about with the power as well - they either have a separate power supply which terminates in the 15 pin plug or you need to use the case power. | |

All dell laptops use sata now but some don't use standard ports, not sure about other manufacturers. | |

Wikipedia entry says 2.5 and 3.5 SATA are the same but I'm sure this desktop drive has different connectors on to my mates laptop. Need the two next to each other really. | |

You defo get them with both 2.5 and 3.5 ide. | |

There are adapters that fit sata and ide but only 3.5", not sure about 2.5, i'll have a look. | |

I have a 3.5" SATA drive here in a computer I'm fixing, need to get the data off so I'm guessing a USB caddy type device will do the job. |
