why not rename the shares? if you add a $ at the end off them they will be hidden and wont show up when you browse the machine etc, thus you would only be able to access the share if you know the full name of it ;)

you going to be the only user? if so security settings on the folder and just have your user name in it, then when people try and accses it, it will say private folder.

Or even a way to just block connections. Like automaticly stop sessions when they start?

If you don't want people taking things of it just unshare it?

That sound like what you want to do anyway although just at night?

What exactly do you want to achieve?

Have them visible on the network without being able to access them?

Its an external HDD plugged into my laptop, laptop is then plugged in by ethernet to the network.

If it were a NAS it would be alot easier!

very difficult without active directory.

Where are these files, on a NAS/PC/SAN?

Is there anyway to restrict access to files on a LAN?

Like put a read lock on them or something?
Or can you put a ban on streaming the videos from another computer?

Basicly the files are on an external HDD connected to my laptop and all computers are conected on a LAN
