Sorted.
Used later software to do it all. Took another backup from the old phone then restored straight to the new one.
Job done.

OMFG.
Newer version of Content Copier doesn't recognise old file format.
Like you would disregard legacy file structures which your old phones generate when the primary purpose of restoring a file is getting old data back in.
This really hasn't been give much thought :|

Just installed 6.83 from the web site - works.
CD supplied with the phone contains 6.82 which doesn't.
No mention of copying contacts though. I can make a new one, but I've not found the import thing for the old .ncc file.
Lots of faffing for something that should be fairly easy.

Cheers James that worked but as Steve said the names are not stored the same. Secondary numbers within names are stored like Billy1, Billy2 etc.

Doesn't write to the SIM anyway.
Just tried old version of PC Suite - the Connection Manager pairs with the new one but Content Copier won't do it because it doesn't recognise the handset.

The 6310i should be able to copy entries from one to the other, and it should be:
Names > Copy > From phone to SIM card > All
Edit: Took far too long to reply. :|

Nothing in the phone to copy to SIM from the phone memory, you can just switch between them which means if you switch to SIM all the phone contacts disappear.
Going to switch to SIM on the old phone and use PC suite to get the contacts back in there, then put that in the new one.
Nightmare.

Is Data Suite the same as PC Suite? PC suite was never user friendly.

Got a new phone, Nokia 6300. Crap audio quality on it but its otherwise an OK phone.
Came to transfer the contacts from my 6310i. Tried Bluetooth first and found a tutorial on how to use the MS driver for my dongle, save installing driver software for that. Bonus. Got that working on an SP2 computer. Even with the right files the SP1 ones wouldn't see it. No matter, works in at least one place, happy days.
Installed old version of Data Suite, 4ish for the old phone. Didn't work at first but I played about with the Bluetooth Control Panel applet and added a virtual COM port in there. NDS saw the phone and read the data out no bother.
Installed the new version of Data Suite. Wouldn't see the phone over Bluetooth. Uninstalled both versions and installed just the new one. Same.
Got a USB cable. Still no recognition of the phone, despite when you put it in media mode the pics wizard stokes up and transfers all your pictures off. And it'll also work as a modem. And it'll map a driver letter in Data storage mode. So USB works.
Data Suite however still doesn't acknowledge the phone despite repeated re-installs, reconnections and general faffing. So I try and uninstall it for the last time with everything still connected up. Gets a message saying it can't uninstall as there is still a phone connected :|
Shocking.
Looks like I'm Bluetoothing these all over between the handsets.
