1. The difference between HDTV modes depends on the size of the screen and how close you sit to it. There no rule of thumb that some people would lead you to believe. A small screen can still see the advantages of 1080p if you sit very close to it (as i do to my monitor).

2. Probabaly the biggest point here. Gears of war runs at 720p. If you select 1080p then the xbox just converts the 720p signal into a 1080p one, so of course theres going to be no difference in the quality is there? Also, they were testing 1080p over component vs 1080p over HDMI, both at the same mode.

yeah :look: well the average gamer/viewer wont notice a difference or at least not a noticible one, but hey ho people can be as geeky as they want, bigger e-penis's ect ect.

read that http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/26/xbox-360-elite-vs-classic-the-test/

"We're going to be totally honest here, we hardly noticed a damn difference at all."

small part of the article is above.

Even on my 1080p screen, 720p looks as good, if not better than 1080i. On a 720p native screen like the R73 then 1080i would never be better, because all your doing there is making the tv convert 1080i back into 720p anyway. Best just to output 720p directly from the box.

yeah tbf i bet there really isnt to much differece between the two in real life or you would have to be looking very hard to find the differences.

That means the R74 is as well, we already established a thread where the differences between the 73 & 74 were purley cosmetic.

whats the difference between 1080i and 1080p then?

1080i yes, but not 1080p. Massive difference there.

Also, the R73 is a 1366*768 native panel to start with, so 720p will look better than 1080i either way.

I connected my brothers Xbox360 via components to my AVR, then from there via HDMI to my R74.
It was my first experience of HD gaming and the picture was amazing! :!
I definitely need an Xbox360.2 or PS3 now.

I use component, others use VGA, there are arguements for both!

DarkBahamut

Component gives better colours but VGA has the option of 1080p (most TVs/monitors cant take 1080p over component). As i dont believe this is a 1080p screen then component is much better.

Edit: Oh, and ive used both on a 1080p screen.

He already has the XBox 360 so just wanting a HDTV.

Component will be tested and so will VGA see which gives best results.

Sounds like component from what people have said.

Only way is component at the moment I think. But the quality seems spot on to me, no doubt someone will put some random numbers and shit in here and i'll be proved wrong.

What ways have all you folks connected you XBox 360 to your R74 TV?

My boss is looking at buying one for his son, just wants to know best way to connect it for best quality before commiting himself to order one.
