Has to be your laptop. It doesn't have a wifi hardware switch on the actual laptop does it?. A button that you physically move in order to enable the wifi connection?.

Also do you know the wifi module that is inside?, reinstall, locate or update the drivers for it?.

tried 3 dongle's mate.

The other 2 didn't even get this far.

Is your laptop old or new. It might just not like the wireless dongle. Can you borrow a different brand off anyone else to test?.

My Sony Vaio laptop will only occaisonally detect the network,

when i try to connect it won't.

There is no network security enabled so WEP and WPA don't need sorting.

The USB adaptor works on other computers

What else can i try?
