Its wrth it at the moment as they are miles ahead, the X2's just cant compete with the Core2's on perfromance.

The Core 2 Quads, and especially the Xeon E51's are amazing too.

i'll look into it, i might be converted to intel yet :o

It really depends what you spend though, like I said with the Core2's you really need to spend a little more on the motherboard to get the full potential out of them.

Best you can buy is probably the Asus Striker Extreme....£250ish though!!

TBH i havnt found any decent Intel boards that i would buy.

whereas the likes of the Asustek Crosshair motherboard is superb

you cannot say the AMD's are anywhere near as good as the Intels, even for overclocking.

Yes the Core2's need a decent motherboard to overclock, where as the AMD's dont really, but the core2's are so overclockable that against the similarly prices X2's they are easily better.

also intel motherbards never meet my needs whereas Asus AM2 one at the minute are some of the best boards i have ever used

i disagree, for the money i'd sooner have AMD. They are cheaper, and overclock very well, and if you can afford it the FX chip is superb.

yup, its been a long time coming but Intel is the top dog once again!

conroes kick the shit out of the amd chips :) I dont think amd can get close to intel at the moment, intel just keeps doubling what it has each time amd make a step closer

AM2 sockets are 940pin yes.

Cosmo

Dont go AMD if you can afford an Intel Core 2 Duo...they are much much better at the moment.

ah ok cheers. :)

i beleive the x2 cpus are 940 pin, is that right?

a dual core 2.6 will still beat a single core 2.6 on ANY application

topshot_2k

posted on 5th Mar 07 at 15:18

a dual core 2.6 is still a 2.6 processor not a 1.3

it has x2 2.6Ghz CPUs and these are most beneficial when running mulitple programs/tasks but in the near future i can see more and more devlopers starting using multiple cores for the same processes

thats just what i heard, would you care to explain then how it works them cosmo.. because i would like to know how it works

the 4000+ is 2.4 and i use 2.4, the 5200+ is 2.6 so with programs / games that dont make use of it you only use 1.3.

whether or no that is totally correct im not sure but thats how i understood it

utter tripe.
