couple of hrs eh?
takes a lot longer than that on todays screens and lcd suffer from it just as bad as plasmas. Usually you can get away with having an image on the for 10hrs or so, as most modern screens will move the image slightly to prevent it happening, before anything starts to happen and even then i doubt you'll see it.

and steve - never seen ghosting on a plasma and the refresh rates are pretty much dandy. Hows the blacks....sorry greys on the lcd? :P:lol:

like dave said, it's to do with screen burn, something which effects both lcd and plasmas (though depends on manufacturers what technology they have to reduce it).

But yea, if you have a HUD in a game it can cause burning (only if you play it for hrs on end), but also channel logos on sat/cable channels (discovery, E4 etc) will do the same if watched for long periods.

plasmas are fine for playing games on.

What you've probably read about is screen burn. Bright images that stay on screen for a long time and affect the pixels behind...
