well like john said the price wont be much more for a ps3 (£425) so at the moment getting a next gen console seems to be the cheapest way into hd. for stand alone players hd dvd ones are around half the price of blu ray players.

or if you meant the movies from hmv etc i think there about the same

if u just want hd video hd-dvd will be cheaper than blu-ray? especially xbox-360 options?

Or wait for the ps3 and get a built in blu ray player for not much more.

hd-dvd player is £100 on play asia, will work region free. 360 core package is £200 or preemium £280

yeah your looking at around £380-£390 for a premium 360 with hd dvd add on, and about £80 less if its the core system. thats still cheaper than a stand alone hd dvd player, unless you were looking at the upscalers? ( wont go as high as 1080p)

"the one", you saying you need additional hardware to make the xbox 360 a HD DVD player?

the one for the xbox 360 can be bought for £130 including delivery, virgin megastores and a few other places sell them at that price. cheapest you'll get for ages

If you want hd-dvd the xbox suggestion is quite a good one, although i'd wait and see if the new one has hdmi or not.

fair enough, not looked at the dvd player market for years and it shows.

is it worth getting a £200 player with HDMI to tie me over for a couple of years? my current LG player died :(

You don't get sub 200 quid hd-dvd players.
