Did you have Anti Virus installed?

Was the Laptop firewalled/behind a router before you connected it to the Internet?

erm, i just formatted my laptop and after re-installing xp (home edition) it was running lovely.
but then after it did all the microsft downloads its packed up :(

it starts up, goes straight into scandisc, then to a blank screen, then asks if i want normal of safe mode.
then a blue screes flashes up (too quickly to read) and it restarts :(

it wont enter safe mode, normal mode or anything now

any ideas?

oh, its an ibm thinkpad r40 if this helps
