** UPDATE **

Phoned up O2 earlier, at the moment I have a Nokia 6230i on the Online 50 tariff, got a Nokia 6280 for £49.99 (they wanted me to pay £99.99 initially but I refused), and am on the Online 100 tariff for an extra £1 per month on top of what I pay now (£19/month).

So £49.99 for the phone, and saving £5/month on my new tariff for the next 12 months, not too bad I thought.

3 are now going to use orange as their 2g network :)

So signal will be crap

Jules, if you ask for a puc code they will probablyh start sniggering, so best to ask for a pac code ;)

I had the same thing Sammeh, I thought the idea of an upgrade was to get a better phone as a reward for renewing your contract with them - now they charge you for it and in this day and age it is a buyers market with so many options avaliable.
If O2 can't give me a N80 for free or at least make it worth me staying with them I'll be requesting my PUC and going to Three network.

I'm not sure, I have to phone back after the 24th, so I'll phone back next weekend and ask as I won't have a chance to during the week.

My line rental is £18.99/month, I don't think I've ever spent more than £25/month to be honest.

the cost of upgrades depends on how much you spend a month on your phone bill, if your a really high spender they will give you a good phone for free, if you spend say £20 a month they will charge you, this is what they refer to banding as.

However, if you do phone up and say your unhappy ect and your going to go to another service provider, they may offer you a discount, chances are they will offer you money off ect, but tbh like i said it all depends on how much you spend a month.

I just phoned up O2 and asked if I could upgrade to a Nokia 6280, they said I can't upgrade until the 24th (fair enough) but then they said I might have to pay £109 or something for the phone because of my "banding" - WTF?

If I just phone up next weekend and ask to cancel my contract, will they give it to me for free do you think? I notice they do that phone for free on their new contracts? :o
