Depends what you mean by Best. There isnt a single ISP thats good at everything really, you have to decide what you most. Speed, cost or reliability. Cable is the most reliable of them all, rarely ever goes down, speeds are mostly solid, very few problems. They dont have the highest speeds (i can download at ~1.17MB/sec though...) of all though nor are they the cheapest, but i find the best all round.

Theres various ADSL2 provides that will offer you 16 or even 24Mbit ADSL but if your more than 1.5km from the exchange you wont get speeds even close to that, more likely 10-12Mbit. There are some ADSL providors offer cheap boardband too, the free ones are the worst, very unreliable, poor CS, and normally crap (it remains to see how sky will do with theirs). My dad has tiscali as he cant get cable and thats been ok for him. I know someone on AOL also, and aside from the lame software that isnt too bad connection wise either.

IMO Cable is best though, only reason i'd get any ADSL was if i lived in an uncabled area.

Im also with Plus net, i signed the company i work for up with plus net, as well as my mums.
We cant fault them at all.
Good quality service, quick speeds (low latency gaming).

Cant fault them either.

give it a year or two, they'll treat you like scum!
CS is a joke as well.

Avoid like the plague!!

Im now with Nildram, paying £25.99 a month for up to 8 meg (depending on line quality) which is totally derestricted (no bandwidth shaping, port throttling etc). You get a 50 gig a month fair usage policy thing which only applies during peak times, and off peak its 100% unlimited which is perfect really, i leave films etc downloading over night without worrying at all, use it all day for whatever i want and I can still download the odd film or episode of top gear etc during the day time if i want to without going over the bandwidth limit.

talktalk is a 18 month contract,
there customer services take the p!ss
10p a mintue if you've got any broadband problems
they block most gaming ports during the day(also block p2p network, the likes of limewire, bitcomet, bitlord)
cant view a website that has live streaming during the day,
after 2am its great but 8am it goes crap again.

I'm with Orange too but to be fair, mine goes down less than the BT Broadband connection at home.

If you've got Sky, you might be able to get Sky Broadband which has free wireless, "unlimited" downloads and is upto 16meg for £10/month.
