there just skins, or enhancements. the shell is the core user interface (gui) for windows is called explorer.exe

replacing the shell would involve using somehting like litestep & such, been a while since I did this myself though...

Things like WindowBlinds are just addons to re-skin the existing shell to look pretty and gay :|

just use windows classic theme & disable windows themes services in services.msc - runs alot more stable & smoother than with all the fancy-ass crap running...

Ive user quite a few, they do tend to slow processing down a bit but some are so much nicer to use. Used to have one just with the backround wallpaper, and hot spots on the screen for different menu's. Very pretty :)

A guy came into work with a Mac shell over the windows one and it was all in jap so i was like erm you gonna have to help me abit here. :lol:

technically speaking everyone runs a windows shell (the graphically interface you are using now). However you can use different ones to make it look pretty if you wish. I use to have great fun changing people's shells to calc.exe (Windows Calculator).
