I have an AMD. It's the best ever. 64 bit rocks!

AMD is the only choice really. best bang for your buck. Budget user, look at Socket A, although no longer supported, you can still get massive performance for very little money. the 3200XP Barton cores w/ 512k L2 can still be overclocked past 2.5ghz, which would put nearly all Intel's to shame.

Remember Dom, the AMD's work harder per clock cycle, so a 4ghz processor or dual core Conroe will be matching raw processing speed with a 3ghz FX62

depends on what you're using it for. Best bang for your buck I would recommend the AMD Opteron 146. Can be massively overclocked too

that was the 24th of June fella.
Check it out, there is reductions all over town. hence the deal above.

It mainly applies to the AM2 chips, but the 939's have also came down.

AMD 64 Athlons all the way.

What do you use your computer for?
If your not going to abuse it no point spending too much on a super dooper processor!

I always use AMD, all new PC's we buy at work are AMD as are the laptops.

so i would wate till atleast then to see what happens.
we are not holding much stock of any CPU's because of this.

I'd still go for the Intel though

well for 90 quid you can have a dual processor that keep up with the fx-57 let alone a single core 4000 ;)

And £170 for a AMD 3000 x2?!?! that certainly isnt cheap especially considering the above - almost 100 pounds cheaper and would have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner :|

But if you dont want to overclock (that would be silly considering you can save mega money) then yea AMD's are a bit cheaper than intels and have similar performance to intels etc

dont be so silly.

AM2 prices have CRASHED down lately, it would be silly not to.
At the moment, you can currently get an AMD 4000 socket 939 for for less than £100.

The AMD X2 chips are very cheap too, for what they are.

AMD 64 all the way

intel D 805 (90 quid or so) is currently the better processor, dual core and can be clocked from its standard 2.6Gigs to 3.6Gigs with air cooling, water cooling can see 4gigs - its meant to be perform better than the AMD fx-57 (which is about 3/400 quid) and top end intel processor around the same price area.

Its what a lot of people are doing current and im looking to go that route as well.

Though generally, i think its what ever camp your in and what you prefer etc
