As I said previously you can transfer your number. I have just done it 10 mins ago. Old O2 contracts up next month, just sorted a new O2 tariff and 12 month contract. Keep my number and got a K800i :)

You can port your number out to another network's pay as you go and then port back to Orange on the new contract but that's the only way to do it and it's a bit of a hassle.

I just upgraded, went from Online 100 to Online 200 equivalent, phoned up to get my old Number put onto my New 3G sim, took 2 mins on the phone and an hours wait. Sorted.

Yes you can do it. I did it for a few years with Vodafone. If you threaten to leave get put through to retentions. Negotiate a new contract and handset and ask to keep your number and roll over to the new contract when the old one ends. I'm just about to do it on 02 as well when my phone is out.
