thinking about it, i have an ATI X800 Pro graphics card in the machine, i suspect that has hardware decoder built in, and the machine is using that?

all of the WinTV cards with built in hardware encoders are £50 upwards.

ive used a proper microsoft decoder checker, and says only cyberlink decoder is compatible, but i think thats software.

IIRC yip, thats why the official support for tuners is a small list.
I've not read up on it for a while though so I would double check to make sure.

Your 12 quid ebay card won't have that.

i see ur point.

so the card i have at the mo uses software to encode/decode, where as MCE relies on the hardware?

Can you get a Media Centre update for Professional? I think I need it as I'm using my PC as a media centre more and more now. It's really cool :)

ive just re-downloaded the drives, will try that. :-s

Yes, the TV card needs to be supported by MCE and have BDA drivers. There are alternatives to using Windows XP Media Centre Edition like MythTV I think? Works on normal Windows XP Home/Pro. And other stuff with free TV guides - just google for them.

You need a TV Card that compatable with media centre.

As for TV guide, I'm not sure. Not seen it.

im after some software for the media center, not sure if it exists :boggle:

Firstly, im wondering if theres software for a UK TV guide? (i.e not browsing to another website?)

secondly, ive put in my own PCI tuner card, and using the proper software that came with it, it plays fine.
But when i got to MY TV in MCE Software, it says i have no tuner card installed.... any ideas?
