Nope they defo won a case that made it illegal.
I'm not sure of the ins and outs or if its just selling the chips or not.
Seems its illegal to bypass the regional protection also.

Surely if you own something you can do what you want with it though? Obviously not breach of copyright etc. but its your system, how can they stop you?

as said i think it is illegal to actually chip the ps2. sony took some sort of injunction out to stop the chips being sold IIRC

i think its acctually illegal to buy the chips in this country, so you just buy it from an american website, and if you know someone who can do it! even better

I don't actually think it is legal to chip a ps2 anymore.
Sony won some court case saying you can't do it.
Nothing wrong with playing import games though.

It is legal to do yes - its only like modding a computer isnt it. Just scrubs your warranty etc.

Is playing imported games legal? Not having a go just wondering. Suppose if you paid the correct import taxes then there shouldnt be a problem.

Only thing with getting a chipped ps2 is that it will have no warranty what so ever from sony. The place you buy it from might supply a few months one but I know of a many a ps2 that has gone wrong, especially the lasers on them, after they have been chipped.
