Which company are you using to supply your broadband? It does matter as its different technologies that are employed.

You donat have to just have a wireless card installed if you dont want to , you could allways get wireless USB dongles that work exactly the same and less hassel imo.

The laptops will require wireless cards in them, they may already have them installed. Any wireless adsl router with a RJ11 connector on it or an inbuilt modem, (same thing).

Such as this.

http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG834GT

So long as it has RJ11 (adsl modem)
802.11 b/g (G being the quicker)

This will allow you to connect two laptops with wireless connectivity to ADSL.

I assume you are looking at BT ADSL and not cable.

You can use the dialup but it would be painfuly slow. Order the broadband and get any router made by one of the mainstream manufacturers so long as its wireless and you should be able to get you both on the internet.

If you find a product post it up and we'll tell you yay or nay.

what i need to know is what do i need to buy to get wireless broadband on both our laptops, and can we both use it at the same time?

i know im gonna need to get broadband but thats it, i really am hopeless with this sort of stuff, so if possible could you provide links?
