in internet settings, go to connection tab, at bottom there is lan settings, make sure the box - automatically detect settings is ticked and apply, also click on never dial a connection and apply, then refresh browser, and as long as its set up properly should connect

Try going into internet options then choose connections then the option never dial a connection, apply, ok, close then restart internet explorer and Robert's your fathers brother

I have this working in the following way...

laptop to desktop computer by LAN then desktop computer to internet.

On the laptop XP pro has set up the bridge and the internet gateway (being the desktop pc connected to the net), and it shows the connection status in the bottom right of the laptop, exactly the same as the desktop so it is connected ok.

but when i go into internet explorer it wants to dial a net connection and cannot connect to the internet so have to click work offline. messenger does not work either.

any ideas?
