i bought a 28 inch samsung digital widescreen tv for about 300 quid & apart from the actual width of the thing (compared to a plasma/LCD) i think its the bollox, no complaints what so ever.

Give it 2/3 years and there will not be many plasmas on the market. Once LCDs can be made the same size as a plasma they will quite quickly dissapear off the market

quote: i agree mate, i wouldnt go out and sell the car to place a deposit on a 7k pioneer :lol: but what i say is look for quality, features etc then the price, if its too much then look for something else :) Dont go by price alone otherwise you'll end up buying a piece of shite. Best advice though is read reviews and i mean search the net for hours on the model youre interested, then a few models eitherside of that and see what people say - as you will get an idea overall what you expect from your model as well as general impressions of the make and realibility etc also dont be scared to ask for a demo of a screen, if your going to fork out a few grand for something then i would show them that youre interested, but you want it setup how you would have it - ie: not 3 screens running off one DVD  and if you have a Sevenoaks near you, go take a visit - they know there stuff and their demo rooms are top notch as well, and you can get a screen/hifi/av equipment set up how you want. Although, they only hold a smallish range of screens and they arnt cheap, but a lot of them will do deals :) At worse visit a richersounds, though ive noticed in a lot of the shops they've turned demo rooms into storage cupboards, like the one in mk  [Edited on 13-07-2005 by Dom]

quote: you are correct, sony crts are top notch, the muts nuts etc monitor tubes are also pretty good, but their plasmas and LCDs are really really poor and the price is just a piss take for them :| as for crts being better, they will always be better - but technology is catching up fast, and if you compare a top of the line pioneer with a top range crt (sony etc) the picture quality will be very similar, and id be suprised if you notice the difference (apart from anti-aliasing stuff, but even then it would be small on a pioneer)

quote: Why are you laughing at sony? You were saying above how crt's are better than plasma. I have a sony crt tv and its one of the best pictures I have ever seen.

quote: yes, their plasma screens are top notch :o although AUDIO equipment, aye is second to none, but can think of better stuff tbh - like Naim, Krell, Ayre, Exposure etc ;) nik - sony use a range of people for their screens, but they build their own boards and stuff. Whereas philips use fuji/hiatchi screens and boards, but use their own speaker setup etc good website for plasmas though - http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/

also, when you go testing these screens - make sure they have the dvd directly connected (best connection possible or the connection your going to use) and no other screen connected to it, and take an ani dvd like ice age etc as it will show up all of the anti-aliasing problems the screen may suffer from.

I have the Phillips LCD with ambient lights etc in a 32'' although they do a 37 iirc - excellent screen very pleased with it but it is expensive. I always have a Phillips 23'' LCD for the bedroom which is again brilliant. Plasmas are good too though, the image burn mith is very very rare! agree picture is more realistic (lcd is very sharp and almost computer like)

plasmas have a better image tbh, also offer better colours than lcds, though you need to spend a fair wack on a decent one - like 2.5-3k.

plasma's where good, but they have so many flaws compared to LCD, go with LCD as plasma will go out eventually, make sure you go for a tv with the high definition input as that's what all digital tv etc.. will be moving too :)
