quote: it wont be slower for internet access, broadband will be 2MBps max and the slowest wireless you can get these days is 11MBps okay in terms of networks but you wont notice a difference on the internet anyway AOL will let you use several computers, You have 2 options really. just get any router and wireless card and configure it all yourself (this is the techie persons option!!!) if you arent really techie ring AOL and tell them what your doing... they will suggest a netgear router.... get the router they suggest as they will be able to help your configure it and also get a netgear wireless card for your laptop. you may also need to put a network card into your family PC depends on if it currently has a network card as your current PC just make sure you encrypt your wireless LAN because next door will be able to use your internet and possibly hack your laptop or PC or if you dont wanna go down the wireless route, get a standard adsl router and run a network cable to your family PC and also run a cable upstairs into your room, would be cheeper but wireless would better

You only need one connection, router to adsl or whatever then connect router to other devices.

quote: get a wireless router matey and use the wireless card on the laptop i gave you. I would reccommend Linksys WAG54G. I've got 1 at home works very well. You could hard wire the home desktop and use the wireless for your lappy  [Edited on 04-05-2005 by iceman]

quote:why? make no sense, any connection CAN be split. you dont have to go wireless btw, more expensive and a bit slower, but saves drilling holes
