if your gonna do a fresh install of windows on it, remember to have the drivers on a floppy disk and press F6 (should ask at the beginning of the installation) to load external drivers etc - then load the drivers from the floppy etc etc

ok in device manager the controller appears as Intel SATA RAID Controller, does this mean its not picking up any sata drive because i only have one sata hdd installed

its almost like the sata controller wontappear unless its set as raid, is it possible for a sata controller to only work as raid, would i need two drives then???

Steve

its built into the mother board, i cant see any drivers for it, it only appears when i enable the sata as Raid.

disk doesnt appear in my computer or disk management!

When you say 'not there' are you talking about within My Computer or within Disk Management? (Sorry I'm making the assumption you've already partitioned and formatted it within Windows if you're talking about 'My Computer')...

Has Windows detected the actual SATA controller in device mgr?

Steve

yes they are all there, but surely windows should pick it up as a drive when its loaded up, basically i have 2 ide's and the sata, one ide already has windows xp loaded, iv just plugged the sata drive in, set it as ide mode in the bios and set it to operate in enhanced mode(tried all other modes too) but windows does not pick it up
