Yeah, the PS2 connects to your router/network via an Ethernet port.
Nothing to do with microfilters, it comes with a standard Ethernet Patch lead.
Do the connection light on the PS2 ethernet port, and the connectoin light on the router/hub/etc. light up?
The only problem I had with mine was when I set it to 100Mbit FD, rather than Auto. It didn't like that for some reason.

it has to plug into an ethernet swithc/hub...

so you need to set up home-networking on ya PC or get a router which supports PS2 online gaming.

try get yaself a copy of the latest release of wingate if your PC has a network socket, install it on your PC, make sure its running ENS, DHCP & DNS Services, connect to the internet & then boot up the PS2 - it should work (it does for my Xbox anyways!)
