Or that if the linux install cd boots

You need to create a root and boot disk from the linux install cd (using rawrite)...

Then you boot from the floppies, which gives you a linux shell, and hence linux fdisk... which will then allow you to delete the linux partitions...

Then just boot off windows 2000 cd and create the ntfs/fat partitions on what will now be a blank partition table

if you boot from win 2k cd or win98 cd it wont see the linux partitions, fdisk wont delete them either , it just comes up with "unable to delete non-dos partition" you need to find out what your hard disk is and download the manu's tools disk, nero can make a floppy image into a cd image and boot from that and delete all the partitions or if you know anyone who has powerquest partition magic that will do it .

my xp disk caused my problems last week as it wouldnt boot, i had 2 make the 6 floppys to boot BUT my bios wasnt playing ball and wouldnt let me boot from cd, im going to give it a try

the lad who sold it says he recomends just booting from a 2000 cd, wiping the partition with lynux on and going from there

you sure that the windows xp cd isnt bootable?

if it isnt bootable, then ring up your nearest dodgy mate (tm) and get a bootable copy. OR u2u me

one problem:

i do not have a floppy drive as the PC is custom build to fit in glovebox

i can boot from CD and possibly make a boot CD

need a boot up disk, such as the classic Windows 98 Boot disk.

make sure computer is booting from floppy,

pop disk in, boot computer, reads off floppy.

boots into dos, the disk *SHOULD* come with the fdisk program in, and delete partitions from that.

But i do believe the windows installation has all of this ready for you, and with pretty colours.

In the end you don't care about the linux installation, so you can afford to screw up X amount of times :)

cheers tho mate, will the partition laready be set up?

AFAIK from when I've done it, it shows the partitions up as 'unknown' or something like that, but i'm not 100% sure, best option is when you go through the windows setup, delete every partition in sight and make a new one ready for Windows :)!

450 mile round trip? yeah but you will get to see kris, myself, and experience hertfordshire at its best.

or bring it down to Kris TD's and I'll do it for a pint and a packet of peanuts.

during the windows install you can delete the partitions that linux is on, thus removing it. I believe they make it very simple in the install, so you shouldnt have a problem.

dont have a disk so i aint tried it yet lol

i have no dealing woth partitions as such :(

my xp disk wont boot up from disk i belive, its a back up copy see, had this trouble with my normal pc

can i delete linux off the PC as it is or do i install windows first? cheeers

willay

uh, installing window2000 should be pretty simple?

Make sure machine is set to boot off the CDROM

Pop windows2000 CD in

Reboot computer, let it boot off the CD (may ask to press any key)

Go through the install screens, when it asks for space to install on, delete all the other partitions (it may show them as 'unknown' or something), make a new partition with free space, install it, bam.
