good point the allocation table structure could mean reading will be one way only. However I thought both were FAT 32. I really have fell outta touch with this considering Im in the final year of my computer science degree !!!!!!! | |

Sorry to jump in here guys, but doesn't the fact of whether his drive structure (NTFS or FAT32) play a big part in this? Surely if his XP drive is NTFS, the win 98 installation wont be able to pick up the xp installation once booted, etc. (Even though on diff. drives - wont be able to read files, etc). | |

ok cocker how does this grab you ... make a default boot of 98 with a startup disk for xp that stores your modified boot.initialise ......... magic | |

Yup, put XP on C and look for a file called boot.ini in the root of the drive :) | |
