oh rite, so it's best to have one modem (in mine) than to have one in each computer?

The computer with the modem in will need to be on for you to be able to comnnect to the net. The best way is to have the modem in yours, as im asuming you use it more than your mum uses hers, and then let her connect to the net through yours.

Yea i have 56k on both, but windows 98 on one and xp on mine. So all i need is a cross over cable to connect them together and set up ICS, and then a network card for each comp. And the net will work at the same time? And when one computer is off yes?

If it is only two computers, you can connect them with a cross over cable, and then use ICS (internet connection sharing) built into windows to share the connection. 2 networkd cards will be about £15, however much cable you need (£20 max) and thats all you need. If you are planning to expand the network ever, or want to be able to use the net when the other computer isnt on, then you will have to go for router hub combo, but AFAIK there arent (m)any routers that work with 56k, if you have that.

if they arent connect already you will need a router or a network hub and a nertwork setting up (Lan = local area network) easy enuff done and can get routers and hubs for bout £30:thumbs:
