If everything is OK in the BIOS then try another CD Drive. Sounds like it's the BIOS to me though

if u boot from cd first make sure ur win98 disk is in and you will get a differant setup screen with 2 choices - make sure you choose option 2 which would be boot from cd

how many cd drives you got in your computer? I've sometimes seen cases where the computer will look in 1 cd drive for bootable media, but not the other drive.

make sure in bios you are booting from floppy first k, then restart, insert disk and when it searchs the A: the win 98 setup should come up and you get 3 choices, choose i think the second one which is boot pc with cdrom support, then it will install drivers for your cd rom and after that you should be able to boot from D: (might be E:) insert win 98 cd into drive and type D:setup.exe and install windows 98, when u got win 98 done use the win XP cd to upgrade is that ok?

gareth, thanx but i have already done that but its still not working...

myw, ive formated my hard drive and i wanna install xp so how am i gonna go about it??

you need to change the boot order in BIOS. when you reboot, there's normally an option like 'hit delete to enter setup'

do that - then normally in advanced setup, you should see something like 'boot device 1, boot device 2, boot device 3' listed

Just make sure floppy is device 1, cd is device 2, and ide0 or whatever is listed currently is device 3.

Hope that helps

Hi, when i turn on my pc it used to try and boot of the cdrom, then floppy then hard drive, but now it misses out the cdrom. Ive checked through all the bios stuff and that is still ok. If i load windows up the cd drive works fine so it must be all installed ok.

any ideas on how to get it to boot from the cd?? :o

cheers
