For your budget, get a 2.1 set of Logitech or Creative speakers.

Will sound alright to you and bass can usually be set up to be quite aggressive which is good, if you have terrible taste in music.

I've had a set of 2.1 Logitech's for about 4 years now, they're amazing for the price (~£20);

i have a set of these on my TV via headphone and pc also. Only cost about 25 quid off ebay, bass on minimum and it vibrates the floor, only dared take the volume to half as its far too loud and still no distortion. Seperate volume control knob. Cant fault them for the price.

Pick up a pair of B&W DM602's off eBay. I've had a LOT of speakers and these punch way above the rest. You'll get a pair for about £150, just look out for damaged tweeters.

I spent £40 on these from Logitech and my neighbours can hear it perfectly clear at about 25%, also has external inputs so can use it on multiple devices

About the £120-30 mark... most below this just simply aren't worth a toss?

Was thinking more along the £50 mark :lol:
(I've grossly miss-underestimated this thought haven't I)

Looking for a simple set of 2 speakers and a sub that I can plug my mac into and blast out tunes. I'm not an audio head so as long as there is some bass and I can make it piss the neighbours off every now and then i'm not to bothered... My mac's speaker simply cannot do the job :P

Any cheap recommendations? I used to have something from PC world which was 2 desktop speakers and a sub that plugged into 1 unit then the 1 unit would plug into the back of the PC but my MBP doesn't have audio ports like a PC does...
