Is a pain in the arse when you don't have inclusive MMS. Not a problem with o2 though as you get 20 or 25 a month.

Agreed, should be an option to only send if it'll send via iMessage

This is the one issue with iMessage and why I still use WhatsApp

iMessage needs a mode saying "Send only by Wifi" and if Wifi is not there don't send

Make sure its JUST Imessage to send messages, I think its poo to be honest

Make sure Settings > Messages > MMS Messaging is set to 'On' Also.

it starts out sending as an imessage and the rest of the conversation was sent as imessage and the other person was just at home

I always check the other person is connected to wifi before I send a picture to them.

The person you've sent it to is out of 3G / WiFi Range.

good in theory, but whenever i send a pic it ends up sending as a text message.
anyone any idea why?
