No, better with a Kindle, an LCD on a tablet doesn't compare, the kindle is literally like reading a book except she can carry hundreds about with her.

cheers

Kindle is the only thing you should get if you want something like a kindle. Does it's job perfectly.

Screen on a kindle is completely useless for web browsing, no point in 3G unless you regularly find yourself in Japan needing to buy a book that second.

Or do it the easy way and just have enough loaded that you don't run out.

Kindle is a great bit of kit though.

I really can't see the point in 3g on a tablet for me.

The best thing about the fire is free 3G like on a kindle.

Oh wait.

And smaller screen

So, for use in the home the Fire is essentially the same but $300 cheaper? Just with half the hdd space, which is pretty much pointless when you basically only use it to surf the net or stream to anyway.

Fair play amazon

Shall be purchasing one of these for sure

I'm most interested in the cheapest kindle from today.

I never use the keyboard on mine and have no use for a touchscreen.

Mostly the same. Though it doesn't have microphone or camera, neither of which I have ever used on my iPad...

OS is Android based, but think I read somewhere that Amazon has modified it quite heavily.

Haven't read anything about it; is it Android based? And what can't it do that the iPad can?

Its probably going to be the first device to really challenge the iPad due to the great price.

Granted it can't do lots that the iPad can do BUT for many people who just want to make notes, check emails, browse the web etc its got potential to be a great product.

It will be interesting to see if the web browsing is much quicker due to the server based rendering that it does

$99 Kindle Touch that I'll now have to get

Finally actually announced it.

$199, 7inch android tablet, if that comes over here in the equivalent dollars I think I'll get one, even at £199 it'll be a bargain.

No official pics yet.
