IMO your better off holding off for 3 months for the new phone if your going to tie yourself in for another 18/24 months.

Cheaper to buy it out right and get a sim only contract (with cashback via QuidCo).

you should be able to change, but say you pick one out with x minutes and texts, the same amount may not be available on a standard tarriff, or the normal internet might cost more (i think blackberrys use a different type of internet service)

i think if you get a blackberry you'll be on one of the bb tarriffs, so will have to change that in order to use an iphone. this might cause problems

I am coming up to renewal on my orange contract and am looking to upgrade to an Iphone 3GS.

The deals available seem really uncompetitive compared to O2 and Vodafone so I may well change network as I really want a tariff with unlimited messages.

My main question is, is it worth buying a cheaper phone on the same contract

e.g. instead of buying an Iphone with 300 mins and unlimited texts at £35 per month plus £149 for the phone, buy a blackberry on the same tariff for less per month for the same bundle and then selling the blackberry and buying the Iphone and using the contract sim that came with the blackberry in the iphone? (if that makes sense)

Thanks guys
