Possibility, the USB cable is fraying a little. But it charges without cutting off and on. Gonna order a new one anyways.

3.0.1 fixes that SMS exploit that affected iPhone OS, Android, and WinMo...

I've updated mine last weekend (and didn't need to resync). Did you try a different USB port/cable? Maybe it kept disconnecting during the upgrade?

What does 3.0.1 do apart from stopping redsn0w working for a few days?

Nevermind i've done it now  9-10th attempt

I just kept trying last time and it did it after 4-5 goes. Got to like 8 this time and it really pissed me off.

Yeah it wouldn't force restart or nothing, was just completely blank.

Syncing 2000+ songs, videos and pictures now :(

have you got the latest version of itunes?

Had this problem as well, i tried manually restoring the device (download the firmware, and left-click the restore button in iTunes and it'll allow you to open a local copy of the firmware for flashing to the iPhone) but did nothing (some say it worked for them). Only way i manage to my iPhone to restore was to do it on an older system - so install iTunes on a different computer and see how you get on

Have you tried holding both buttons? Forcing it to reset?

How did we fix it last time?

Yeah yeah, it's in the wrong section but i could do with a quick answer if there is one.

Plugged my iPhone 3G into my laptop today and it said it needed updated (OS 3.0.1) so i proceded as you do, but it kept failing.

Comes up 'restoring iPhone firmware' on iTunes, gets about 3/4s across on the phone then comes up with an error saying please try again.

Done it 5-6 times and it cancels half way, done it twice, and got 2/3s across and just done it then, got most the way, said its completed then went back to the please restore page

What should I do? Just keep trying?

Ta.
